Accessibility on Public Transport

Hi everyone, today I am joined by Faith. Much like me, Faith is a lifestyle blogger, with a bit of fashion thrown in as well. In this post, Faith talks about accessibility on public transport.

Over to you, Faith...

Hello fellow Brains on Wheels readers my name is Faith I am a friend of Ailsa's and author of the blog Rolling Through Life. Today I am here to talk about accessibility on public transport and what more can be done for disabled passengers.

Now if you are a wheelchair user like myself you'll most probably know about the dreaded pole you get directly placed next to the wheelchair space on a bus, making it very difficult to park your wheelchair on the bus especially if you are a powerchair user like me. To solve this problem I think that they should have the button nearer the window making it not only easier to press but also to get on and off the bus itself.

Secondly I’d like to talk about accessibility on public trains. As a frequent user of trains they help me get from A to B however it doesn’t always happen as smoothly as you may hope.

Actually accessing the train is a nightmare as if there is not a train guard around to help you get on quite frankly you are stuffed. However I understand that wheelchair users have to book 24 hours in advance to travelling although this give no sense of spontaneity or adventure to any wheelchair user who wants to travel. I think that making sure you have appropriate staff on the train and at train stations should be essential.

In conclusion I believe that more should and could be done to help disabled people access the community and also feel part of society.

I hoped you enjoyed my little post. Ailsa also wrote about accessible shopping over on my blog which you can check out at Rolling Through Life and don’t forget to subscribe whilst you are there!

Bye for now and remember to #chooselove

Thank you to Faith for writing this post. I'm looking to write some more blog posts about various topics, and maybe some more 'guest blogging', so let me know what you would like to see.

Thank you for reading, bye for now.
