Re-Defining Disabled
What does "disabled" actually mean? Disabled means that you can't do things, right? Wrong! According to http://www.dictionary.com/ "disabled" means physically or mentally impaired, injured, or incapacitated". I believe "disabled" doesn't have to literally mean disabled because most of the people who have disabilities, who I know are very able!
I like to think of it as differently able because people who have disabilities can do a lot of things, they may not be able to do them the way others do, but they can do things! The words "disabled" and "disability" have a lot attached to them, and most negative, thanks to society... There is a lot of stigma surrounding disability, but I don't know why, I can't even begin to work it out. It even comes down to the fact that able bodied people are even scared to go near a person who has a disability! Ridiculous, isn't it?
The question is, why? Why is it like this? And why do they see us as being some kind of monster or alien?
Thank you for reading this, I hope you have enjoyed it. I hope it got your "cogs" working too!
