This is an article that I read earlier on today:
In this article, it says that the creators of Barbie, Mattel have decided to stop making a friend of Barbie's, who is called Becky. Becky uses a wheelchair, and they came to this conclusion because Becky's wheelchair didn't fit into the current Barbie house.
This actually highlights some of the difficulties that disabled people face in real life, but you can't just get rid of these people, you make access better. I know it needs money, but they could make a new house that is big enough to fit the wheelchair in. Surely it will be better in the long run because it will make people aware, not only children but adults too.
I had rag dolls that had disabilities, and I think they're great because I believe they help 'normalise' people with disabilities. These dolls had a wheelchair, white cane, a guide dog, crutches, two different types of glasses, and even hearing aids. The children that my mum looked after liked these dolls as well. When I was younger, I had great fun playing with them.
What do you think?
Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time.
