What Is Accessible?

Hello everyone, how are you all? Before I start on the accessible subject, I would like to briefly talk about my Facebook page for Brains on Wheels. I am extremely proud to announce that I have reached over 600 likes and I would like to thank every one of you who support my campaigns and follows my work... I have a goal for the end of the year, which is 1,000 likes and followers. Having more followers will help get my story out there, and it will help me reach more people. So if you like Brains on Wheels, why not give it a like? Don't forget to follow too!

Anyway, what is accessible? Is it when buildings have ramps? Is it were there are automatic doors? No, in my opinion, nothing is completely one-hundred-percent accessible because you see things that are accessible to one person, but it may not even be the slightest bit accessible to another person.

For example; at school, I went to a sports club, which a few of the LSAs ran. When I went to the sports club, the activities that were available were wheelchair football and wheelchair basketball. Neither of these were completely accessible because I can't use my hands, you have to be able to use your hands to move your wheelchair fast, whether you're using a manual chair, or an electric. As I have always used my chair with head switches, this wasn't really accessible for me because to change direction, I have to wait for the arrow to point in the right direction, and put my head back to move, I have to do this every time I want to change direction. I soon became bored because of this, so I stopped going.

Our community isn't exactly accessible either. As I have said before, there are things for people who have disabilities to do if they can use their hands, but my disability affects all four of my limbs, including my hands. Not forgetting accessible toilets...

In conclusion, I think that MPs, Councillors, or whoever discusses things like this, should get together and discuss what can be done to make our community a better place for everyone.

I hope you have enjoyed this post, and I'll see you next time.
