Leaning on People's Wheelchairs
Hello, today I'm going to be talking about leaning on people's wheelchairs. I'm not talking about friends leaning on your wheelchair, I'm talking about strangers leaning on your wheelchairs. This can make a person extremely uncomfortable because if you lean on someone's chair without permission, you are invading their personal space. A wheelchair is made for the disabled person to sit in, not to be used as a leaning post.
I suppose it's okay for someone to lean on your wheelchair if they know you well, but if they don't know you well, then you shouldn't do it. Yes, I'll admit that I do let some people lean on my chair, but only those who I'm close to, other than that, I don't like it. My mum does it to annoy me sometimes, and it works! It is extremely annoying when people push your arm off your own armrest just so that they can lean on it!
Even people leaning on your handlebars is annoying because when you're sitting in a wheelchair, you can feel the backrest tilt backwards slightly, the pressure from leaning on the handlebars makes the backrest of the chair go back, this doesn't matter as such if I'm in my electric wheelchair because my seating system isn't attached to the back of my electric wheelchair because it has a flexible backrest, therefore because the handlebars are separate, it doesn't effect my seating system much, but that's not the point.
In conclusion, I think that people who use wheelchairs are entitled to be annoyed when other people lean on their wheelchairs because like I said at the beginning of this post, if you lean on a person's wheelchair, it can feel like you are invading their personal space.
Thank you for reading this post, and I hope you enjoyed it. I'm going to be publishing a new blog post next month, this one's going to be slightly different to my other post, but hopefully you will like it.
Anyway, take care.
Bye for now.
